Economics for non-economists

Course Overview:

This three-day course will introduce and explain the concepts and tools of economics. It will teach participants a number of economic principles, furnishing them with a set of tools to both enhance their analytical ability and to enable them to work more closely with economists.

Applications and case-studies will be presented alongside the theory; participants will be encouraged to relate these to their own areas of work and that of their organisation as a whole. The approach will be discursive and participatory.

This course will:
  • Introduce economic theory in an accessible and interactive manner
  • Allow discussion of how economics should be used in policy
  • Be very interactive allowing for the flow of ideas and giving participants the opportunity to apply the principles to case studies or scenarios
  • Complement the online learning and support materials
  • Describe recent trends in the economic data and the nature of the UK and world economy
  • During the workshops, a number of case studies and short seminars will be held to embed learning and to provide a deeper understanding of specific topics. These will be topical, thought provoking and rigorous.

Attendees are entitled to a discounted place on Economics for non-economists: Intermediate Microeconomics
